He sounded as fit as a fiddle and told me that he only gave up playing Tennis when he was 82. He also told me how during WW2 he was a Spitfire Fighter Pilot.<br>February 1941, initially on deferred service because of his age, then he transferred to active service in July 1941. in the RAF Occupation Woolwich Equitable Building Society Occupation Retired Insurance Manager Occupation Accounts Clerk at Selfridges Residence 2007 Bournemouth.<br>He was born on 23 Feb 1922 in Calcutta,<br>West Bengal, India. R.A.F Feb 1941 in February 1941, initially on deferred<br>service because of his age, then he transferred to active service in July 1941..<br>Residence 2007 in Bournemouth. Also Known As was Den. Occupation in<br>Retired Insurance Manager.<br>Notes for Dennis James Marklew May:<br>General Notes: In 1924 the family sailed back to the United Kingdom,<br>stopping off en-route in Port Said, where Dennis James May managed to get<br>lost for an hour or so.. This is where Dennis first met Di, who lived with her<br>family in their own house in Muschamp Road. Di´’s father Sam had inherited<br>money, and worked in Insurance. At this time Dennis attended Wilson<br>Grammar School, and Di attended Dulwich Central School.<br>Around 1934/1935 moved to a flat in Muschamp Road, East Dulwich, where<br>Dennis had his own room for the first time<br>During the war Dennis was evacuated with the school, initially to a town on<br>the coast, then subsequently to Ashford in Kent, where he attended Ashford<br>Grammar School, becoming Head Boy and Captain of the school football<br>team.<br>After leaving school in Ashford, Dennis moved back to Muschamp Road, and<br>after initially working at Selfridges as an Accounts Clerk joined the Woolwich<br>Equitable Building Society.<br>Dennis moved with the Woolwich and its records to Pilgrims House, Pilgrim<br>Way in Westerham, Kent, where he joined the Home Guard. Joined the RAF<br>in February 1941, initially on deferred service because of his age, then he<br>transferred to active service in July 1941.<br>The family stayed in Muschamp Road until early 1942, but moved out as the<br>house was becoming uninhabitable by this time, and into rented<br>accommodation somewhere near the river in Maidenhead, Den remembers he<br>was undertaking flying training stationed at Woodley Aerodrome at this time,<br>and flew over the house whilst on training exercises.<br>After Maidenhead the family moved firstly into rented property at 68 or 88<br>Windermere Avenue in South Kenton.
